National Reform Programmes 2012 now available – Homelessness emerging as a priority
For the first time, Europe has set a target to reduce poverty by lifting at least 20 million people out of poverty by 2020. The poverty target is one of five key targets set in 2010 as part of the European Union's economic and employment strategy (referred to as Europe2020) for this decade, a strategy to be delivered though annual National Reform Programmes (NRPs) which are based on 10 broad guidelines for economic and employment policies, including a guideline (10) on promoting social inclusion and combating poverty. It is important to note that all eyes in Brussels are on the Europe2020 strategy – it is the Union’s main strategy, and will set the agenda for this decade at least through the priorities highlighted in the National Reform Programmes. Hence this process is far more important the social open method of coordination. It seems homelessness is a priority in the NRPs for the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Hungary, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, UK. See all NRPs here.
